Rich White Guys Blow Up the World
My family was watching the news and politics came up. Wars, government infighting, etc. Its not specifically that I want to talk about, but a broader trend I notice in todays world.
So many decisions that make the world worse or generally make humanity worse are initially made or approved by just a few very wealthy, maybe very well known men.
For example, war. I mean "normal" war, like Afghanistan or such, not World War 2. If you ask any normal person on the street whether a country should fight another, they will likely tell you no. War is quite bad for everyone involved. But, we still go to war. Why? Because a hot-shot in a chair in a special building collaborated with people in a different building to make a war declaration. War has very little benefit. Sure, in the distant past going to war would get you freedom or land, but we are in the modern world and no one fights for that anymore. This is one example of how the big high ups make life worse for everyone, even when the majority do not want such a life.
Another example would be technology. I'm not talking about prosthetic hands here. I'm talking about the addictive social media platforms. At the end of the day, the big high ups approved, consciously, the making of these universally terrible platforms, and all the aspects of them to make them addicting. Totally understandable if you want to truly connect people, but not so much if you include ads, tracking and selling data, and addictive elements in the UI. The tech was eventually made by powerful people pining for profit. Yet another example of the rich white guys blowing up the world.
It's also not necessarily war or addictive technology. It's the environment too. I'm sure the average person (who realizes climate change is real) would love to have a societal structure which allows for less destruction to the environment, like more electric car subsidies. But the government has not done that of late. Some countries in Europe have done this, but not the bigger countries.
Through these examples, I hope you can see what I'm saying. The average person wants a peaceful, stable, and overall comfortable life. This is a problem with the system, where a few guys up there can dictate the rest of our lives for us.
Thank you for reading! Have a lovely day :)
